Brazil is sometimes 3 hours ahead of ET and 6 hours ahead of PT). At other times of the year it is 1 hour ahead of ET and 4 hours ahead of PT. I hear you asking, “Why is that?”. It is because since they are in the southern hemisphere, their seasons are the opposite of ours. Our winter is their summer. That means that we do daylight savings in the opposite direction: when we loose and hour, they gain an hour. Confused? The easy solution, is to go to the World Clock at  http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/ and look at your home area and either Brasilia or Rio de Janeiro.

Usually they call the operation line first. It is for people who have already seen John of God and were told to come back at that time for an operation (see the upcoming post on operations). They can call the surgery/operation line at anytime, but it is typically from 20-30 minutes after the time the session was supposed to begin (8:20 AM or 2:20 PM) though it could be as late as 9 AM or 3 PM.

Sometimes John of God takes people out of the operation room in the back of the Casa de Dom Inaciao and brings them up on the stage of the  of the main room.

30 minutes to an hour later they call the next line. Usually (though not always) the “segundo” or second time line, is next. This line is for people who have been to see John of God at least once before.

Depending on how many people are there and what happens as people go in front of John of God, this can take 40 minutes to an hour.

There are 3 more lines left:

  • the revision line for people who have had spiritual operations a week before
  • the “8 o’clock” in the morning or the 2 o’clock line in the afternoon (I will explain these in another post). In spite of their names, they can go at any time.
  • The “primeira” line for first timers.

The order of these lines varies. You just have to listen. If you get confused ask someone or show someone your “primeira” ticket and point to the line and ask if it is the “primeira” line.

There are 2 sessions a day, one starts at 8 AM, the other at 2 PM. Your first time you don’t have to be there early, but I would recommend being there at least 15 minutes early (if it’s a very busy time, 20 minutes); just so that you can relax and feel less stressed and rushed. You will also be assured of a seat in the main hall if it is crowded (sometimes all the seats are taken).

Write down what you want help with (see post: John of God: What kinds of things can I ask for help with?). You can do this before you arrive, or there is plenty of paper and a few pens at the Casa de Dom Inacio. Typically they suggest no more than 4 issues you want help with, but I’ll leave that up to you.

Ask anyone who speaks English where the interpreters are located. As you face the open to the air main hall were people will be sitting waiting for the session to start, the translators will be outside, just to the right.

Wait in line, and then give the interpreter your list. They will translate it into Portuguese for you. Ask them to point out the bookstore, so you can walk over and get a free ticket to the “primeira line” (“First time line”). You don’t absolutely have to have a ticket, but will make it easier for them and for you.

Meanwhile, people who have been there before, and who aren’t going in front of John of God that session have gone into the 2 current rooms (I will do a post on the current rooms in a few days). They then close the door.

People sit in the main area. If they are going in front of John of God, they wait until their line is called. Usually things are said in Portuguese with occasional English. Sometimes there is a lot of English spoken (sorry very little French, and no Spanish is spoken). Occasionally there is only a tiny bit of English spoken. It doesn’t really matter. All the work is done energetically, so it is fine if you don’t understand (I actually prefer it when they don’t speak much English; it makes it easier to meditate and feel the energy.).

Note: occasionally people feel a little feint or woozy or strange as they sit or stand in the main room. If you think you might feint or if you feel badly, raise your hand and/or ask someone near you to get someone from the Casa de Dom Inacio to help you. You will be in good hands. If necessary, they have an “infirmary” where you can lie down.

Everyone has a ticket that identifies which line they will be in. They will call the lines by name. Sometimes in Portuguese and English, sometimes just in English.
If it is in Portuguese it is still very easy to hear the line names, because when they are spoken they sound very much like their English equivalents.

  • “primeira” sounds like primary
  • “segundo” sounds like second
  • “operação” or “cirurgia” sounds like operation and surgery.
  • If you are confused: If you see people getting in line, show someone your ticket and point to the line. They will let you know if it is your line. They usually walk along the lines and make sure that people are in the correct line; so relax, it will be easier than you think it will be.

Note: sometimes they change the order of the lines, so pay attention. I will describe the typical order, but sometimes John of God feels the order should be different that session.
You may want to go up to the triangle before the session begins, but it’s not necessary. I will explain that in another post.

It will usually be some time before you the “primeira” line is called- anywhere from an hour to 2 hours or more-but you never know.

They will start the session. People will be up on stage and speaking. Again it might all be Portuguese, or they might be some of it in English. Usually they start with everyone standing and holding hands with the people next to you and reciting the Lords Prayer and Hail Mary (if you don’t know them, or they are in Portuguese, or if you don’t feel like reciting them just hold hands and join in on the intention of the moment—gratitude, asking for blessing, and forming a group energy).

More on your first time before John of God in the following posts.

Kind of. If you speak Portuguese he sometimes really chats with you.

If you are speaking thorough a translator, then usually you get very brief, sometimes ambiguous answers– or no answer at all. The fact that it comes through a translator, makes it worse.

The solution:

Realize that, for the most part, what he says to you is not what really matters. You are being worked with on a spiritual/energetic level.

A friend of mine agonizes over what he writes on his request list. Getting it “right” and trying to explain too much. Again, that isn’t how it works. What you write is more for you than for them. The healing is done spiritually and the important thing is your intentions and the amount of permission you can give for the healing to work.

Be open and let John of God do the work!

John of God will help you with
· Physical problems (legal note: I make no claims that you will be healed, and you must be under medical care)
· Spiritual growth
· Emotional issues (legal note: I make no claims that he can heal you of emotional issues and you should be receiving counseling)
· Your work, career, $$ (legal note: I make no claims that he can help your financial or business situation, and you should be receiving expert financial and business advice).
· Relationships (legal note: I make no claims that he can help you with your relationships)

· ???

You can ask questions too, but you may or may not get an answer. if you do get an answer if may be ambiguous. And its coming through a translator who uses his own English words. The solution is to relax and realize that the healing doesn’t depend on your cognitive understanding of the process. Let John of God do it his way!

How do I see John of God?

It’s a great idea to go to the English language introductory evening,  on Tuesday nights at the Casa de Dom Inacio. They will give you a lot of very helpful information.

You can also get a lot of information on the website, www.friendsofthecasa.com .

Its easy to become overly trusting about money in a place like Abadiania. Remember–just because someone is spiritually inclined, it doesn’t mean that they are absolutely dependable or even trustworthy when it comes to money. Many people become naïve when they are connecting to people on the basis of common spiritual beliefs. It is not worse in Abadiania than in other parts of the world. It’s the same all over the world: just because someone has been very, very helpful and nice and spiritual doesn’t mean you can trust them when it comes to financial dealings. The point: Conduct your financial dealings with the same care and protection you would do in your own country.

Go to see John of God soon!

Why do I say that?
Because Abadiania is changing rapidly. Houses and shops are being built in areas that used to be open fields. Abadiania is still wonderful, but it is losing some of its charm. There are several reasons for the rapid growth and change in Abadiania.

  • They have created an artificial lake beyond Abadiania. It is getting to be very popular, and people stop in Abadiania to eat, buy things etcPeople come to Abadiania from all over the world. The prices are going up because, especially to Europeans, everything is very, very inexpensive. Many people don’t think twice about paying prices that are high for rural Brazil. Since some foreigners stay for months in Abadiania, and since many of the people who come to see John of god have limited funds, this is becoming a problem.
  • The local people are catching on and there are new shops, restaurants, pousados, houses and even a few condos going in. This is changing the character of the town and starting to eat away at the green open fields.

I don’t want to paint a bleak picture. Some of the development is good; there are more services; and Abadiania is still charming. But it is changing rapidly, so don’t wait!

Food has energy on and in it. Not just the energy we measure in calories; it also has energies particular to that food, and how it was handled and prepared. You can clean off any unpleasant energies that are connected to how the food was handled and prepared–that is one of the reasons that people of all religions all over the world have traditionally prayed over food and blessed it. But you can’t easily change the energy of the food itself. John of God says that the energies of black pepper, alcohol, and pork interfere with the healing energies of the herbs. So while you are taking the herbs (most people, but not all, get herbs), it is wise to not eat those foods. Another positive effect: for many of us it is the first time we have consciously considered the energy of the foods we eat and how they effect us. It is a worthwhile exploration to begin!
